Opossum

The greatest marsupial!

Opossums have a diet consisting of dead animals, plants, and even dog/cat food. They are immune to snake venom and do eat snakes. They eat any ticks found on themselves. They also eat the bones of animals to get calcium. You can find Opossumsin North, Central, and South America. Although its habitat varies, they typically stick to more wooded places. The main opossum species found in North America is called the Virginia opossum. In more recent years the Opossums have been moving north. Opossums are about the size of a house cat when fully grown. They have prehensile tails which they use when moving in trees. The thumbs of Opossums are opposable. Their fur is made entirely of awn hair. Awn hair is a much thicker hair that marsupials have. Opossums are not and should not be house pets. They like being in the wild. Their average life span is 4 years.
